Restarting My Blogging Journey: Embracing Change Without Letting Go of the Past
The Journey from a Young Blogger to a Seasoned Professional
Back in 2006, I took my first step into the world of blogging. I was just a student in college, born and brought up in a small town in Andhra Pradesh, India. My English was far from perfect, and my early posts reflected my learning curve. But that didn’t stop me. Inspired by Amit Agarwal of Labnol, I started my blog as a space to document my thoughts, experiences, and interests.
However, as life progressed, so did my career. Working in India’s largest stock brokerage firm for 11 years and gaining 15+ years of experience in the stock market, I gradually stepped away from blogging. Though I updated the blog occasionally, my professional commitments took precedence. But now, something inside me calls me back to this platform—a space that was once my voice to the world.
“Reviving a Blog After a Long Hiatus”
Rekindling an old blog is like revisiting an old journal. It carries nostalgia, rawness, and an unfiltered version of yourself. There’s an urge to delete or rewrite the old posts, to change the blog name or even the URL, but something holds me back. That old content represents my journey, growth, and evolution. Instead of erasing history, I choose to embrace it and build upon it.
Why Not Delete Old Blog Posts?
They Show Your Growth: My old posts remind me of my progress—from a student struggling with English to a seasoned professional.
They Offer Authenticity: Readers connect with real stories, and these posts tell my true journey.
They Reflect the Evolution of Ideas: What I wrote back then might seem silly now, but it shows the thought process of my younger self.
“Personal Branding Through Blogging”
In today’s digital era, a blog isn’t just a personal diary—it’s a personal brand. Even without a defined audience, sharing my insights on topics I am passionate about can add value to those who stumble upon my blog. Here’s why personal branding through blogging matters:
Establishes Authority: Years of stock market experience have given me knowledge that others may find useful.
Builds a Connection with Like-Minded People: My blog can attract those who share similar interests.
Creates an Online Legacy: Whether or not I have an audience now, my words will be available for future generations.
“Finding the Right Blogging Direction”
Restarting my blog raises an important question: What should I write about? The beauty of a personal blog is the freedom to explore various topics. Here’s how I plan to approach it:
1. Write What Feels Right
Blogging isn’t about chasing trends but sharing thoughts that matter. I plan to write about:
Lessons from 15+ years in the stock market.
Personal growth, books, and entrepreneurship.
Interesting observations from everyday life.
2. Not Worrying About the Audience (Yet)
Initially, I wrote for myself, and that’s what I will do again. Building an audience takes time, and authentic content always finds the right readers.
3. Keeping It Flexible
Instead of sticking to a rigid niche, I’ll allow my blog to evolve organically based on what resonates with me and my readers.
“Overcoming Self-Doubt in Blogging”
One of the biggest obstacles to restarting this journey is the fear of judgment—judgment from myself and from those who might read my old posts. But here’s how I plan to overcome it:
Remembering Why I Started: This blog is my space, my voice, and my story.
Accepting Imperfection: Growth means improvement, not perfection.
Taking Small Steps: Instead of overhauling everything at once, I’ll make gradual updates to improve the blog’s presentation.
Final Thoughts: A New Chapter Begins
As I restart my blogging journey, I embrace the past while stepping into the future. The blog’s name, design, and content might evolve, but its essence remains the same—a reflection of my thoughts and experiences. If you are someone who has been hesitant about restarting something you once loved, take this as a sign to go for it. The past is proof of progress, and the future is full of possibilities.
